Shooting Progress

We have done most of the shooting, including green screen and Narrative. The bedroom scene was one of my favourite shoots we took. We decided to experiment with an aerial shot from above the bed which you can see above looked really good. We kept the lighting simple, although we had to experiment with it because a lot of shadows were created; because of the extra lights that we were using. We had to take some of the shots several times to ensure that we had the right shot, although this was a long process, it was worthwhile when we achieved the right footage. After gaining all the footage needed we went about editing it in Final Cut and putting it together on a time line. We did this successfully as we had constructed a storyboard before and we could therefore follow it step by step.

Planning meeting 1 (initial response)

Today we were told our brief and we got started straight away. We decided as a group, from looking at previous work that slow songs are difficult to work with creatively, upon this conclusion we decided  that  our song choice should be something quite upbeat and have a message behind it; so that we could produce a strong narrative. After hours of flicking through songs on our ipods, we decided on Kate Nash's song 'Foundations'. This song is quite upbeat and we felt that we would enjoy editing it and making a narrative about it. We began planning and quickly came up with what we wanted to be in the music video and also what the narrative we would. The initial reaction from everyone toward the brief was excitement and we then went on to think about the cast.

We decided that we wanted the cast to be quite confident and feel comfortable in front of the camera. As the song is quite indie, we thad to think about who would suit the role well. Erna wanted to do it and we decided that it would be a good idea, as she is very confident and fits in well with the indie pop genre.

Planning meeting 2

We meet up today to decide what we wanted to do. We planned and listed the various locations we wanted to incorporate into our music video. We talked about the narrative and this consequently led to the locations we decided upon. (gym, pub, bedroom etc) Once we decided our cast, costumes and locations, we then went on to create a mood board of all these  ideas. All our  ideas stemmed from indie-pop influences and stars that we also talked about in this session. (Lilly Allen, Kate Nash etc)

We decided to go for Erna to be the main artist. We established that Erna would evidently fit in well with the style of the song (Foundations) and the genre indie-pop because of her bright red her and her ability to perform and feel comfortable in front of the camera.

Music Video Timeline

This is roughly how our timeline is looking, we've tried to include a range of shots from close ups to ariel shots to long distance shots. This is so that we are considering how our audience might be targeted and for their needs to be met.

The Lyrics & My ideas

Here is an image of our lyrics and our groups initial ideas. In my view the lyrics are very playful and I wanted our music video to show a relationship between the visuals and the lyrics. Our groups intention is to amplify the lyrics, so instead of just showing a literal link between the lyrics and the visuals were adding new layers of meaning to the song.
